The Tulare Public library is lucky to have one of the largest collections of genealogical materials in Central California. It consists of books, microfilm, microfiche, compact disks, newspapers, vertical files, yearbooks and city directories.

Genealogy/Local History Room Hours

The collection was started in 1969 when the Alta Mira Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) deeded their collection of lineage books, magazines and other reference materials to the Tulare Public Library. Later, in 1976, an endowment from the Inez Hyde Estate was added. Since that time, many other books and materials have been acquired to provide researchers with a rich variety of resources.

The Sequoia Genealogical Society

The Sequoia Genealogical Society (SGS) is the support organization for the Tulare Public Library's Genealogy Collection. The SGS finds and/or purchases most of the materials for the collection and provides volunteers to assist patrons, organize materials, conduct research and respond to telephone and email inquiries from all over the world.

Local History

For more information about the history of Tulare, visit the Tulare Historical Museum. This local treasure endeavors to "preserve and showcase the history of the City of Tulare". As well, they host many artistic exhibits and events and cultivate a beautiful boutique.
